Perhaps the most interesting 11-inch mini laptop we have seen so far this year would have to be the AVADirect Clevo W110ER which although might come in a small package, it does have some pretty powerful hardware components that make it a suitable laptop for those that want to play games while on the go. The chassis of this model is virtually the same as the one that the Eurocom Monster has. This means that it has the same rubberized, subdued lid that features faint gridlines. Unlike the Monster, this Clevo W110ER lacks the chrome logo sitting in the center. For $350 more you can get the mini laptop with a custom paint job.

Once you open the mini laptop you will notice the rubberized touchpad and palm rest, while the top of the deck has a rubberized grid that consists of green status lights for Wi-Fi, Num Lock and Caps Lock on the left side, while the right side holds the power button. As for the middle of the laptop’s deck, this is recessed a little bit and features a rubberized soft-touch panel.

As we were saying before, the chassis is the same one as in the Eurocom Monster so both laptops measure 11.5 x 8.3 x 1.5 inches, but the Clevo is a little bit lighter since it weighs 3.8 pounds while the Monster tips the scales at 4 pounds.

It has been fitted with an 11.6-inch LED glossy screen that manages to provide sharp and clear text, featuring a native resolution of 1,366 x 768 pixels (720p). We do have to warn you though that the viewing angles are limited to only 45 degrees so if you are not straight in front of the screen you will immediately notice that the colors are washed out. The small stereo speakers are quite weak as these don’t have the power to fill not even a small room, but you will do get a nice boost if you activate THX TruStudio Pro.

The AVADirect Clevo W110ER has an island-style keyboard which consists of rather small keys that have enough space between one another and are capable of providing a nice feedback. Below this keyboard is the textured touchpad from Synaptics which measures 3.4 x 1.7 inches and manages to be very good when performing various multitouch gestures. It comes with two discrete buttons that provide a great feedback and generate a satisfying click when you press them.

Perhaps one of the major issues of this mini laptop is the fact that it gets too hot. After playing an intense game for less than half an hour you will notice that the right side vent temperature reaches 115 degrees, while the bottom of the laptop reaches about 106 degrees. What this means is that the AVADirect Clevo W110ER is not really a lap-friendly laptop so it might be better to keep it on a desk so that it won’t get too uncomfortable on your lap.

On the right spine of this 11-inch laptop you will have access to the power jack, secure lock and a USB 2.0 port that has charging capabilities. The left side holds two USB 3.0 ports, a headphone and microphone combo jack, Ethernet, VGA out and an HDMI port as well. On the front lip you’ll notice a 9-in-1 memory card reader.

Now, time has come to talk about the hardware components of this AVADirect Clevo W110ER. It is powered by an impressive, third-generation Ivy Bridge-based Intel Core i7-3610QM processor that works together with no less than 16GB of DDR3 RAM. For storage it packs a speedy 750 GB hard drive that rotates at 7,200 rpm, along with a Hybrid SLC SSD that has a capacity of 8GB.

In the graphics department we notice the integrated Intel HD 4000, as well as a dedicated GPU from Nvidia, the GTX 650M. The mini laptop offers support for the Optimus technology so it will turn off the dedicated video card whenever this isn’t necessary. This has to be one of the most powerful 11-inch laptops we have ever seen, managing to score an impressive 3,362 in PCMark 07, but it’s still less than what the aforementioned Eurocom Monster is capable of, reaching 4,299 thanks to its faster Intel Core i7-3720QM processor.

Even so, this is an extremely powerful mini laptop when it comes down to gaming, managing to run World of Warcraft at an average frame rate of 171 fps at the screen’s native resolution, while the Eurocom Monster plays it at 179 fps. These numbers are applicable for the Good level of details while running the game at the maximum settings will return 94 fps on the Clevo and 96 fps on the Monster.

As you can see, the AVADirect Clevo W110ER is capable enough of playing just about any game you throw at it. This configuration that we have talked about will set you back approximately $1,326 but for less money you can get the entry-level model priced at $1,055 which is offered with a slower Sandy Bridge-based Intel Core i5-2520M processor running at 2.50 GHz, 4GB of memory, Intel HD 3000 / Nvidia GeForce GTX 650M with 2GB of VRAM and a 750GB HDD spinning at 7,200 rpm. If you don’t like this configuration either then you’ll be happy to hear that on the company’s website you have the possibility of configuring your own system.

When it comes down to the battery, the AVADirect Clevo W110ER is capable of surviving in LAPTOP Battery Test for about three and a half hours which is just about the same time that the Eurocom Monster can achieve. This battery drain test consists of surfing the web over a wireless network connection.

All things considered, if you want a small laptop that has powerful hardware components, the AVADirect Clevo W110ER should be at the top of your list because it comes with Ivy Bridge processors, an impressive GTX 650M dedicated graphics card from Nvidia, lots of memory, as well as speedy hard drives and solid state drives. Thanks to the fact that there are a lot of customization options available (including the choice of thermal paste), most likely you will be able to configure your model exactly the way you want it.
