With the launch of extremely popular tablets like the Samsung Galaxy Tab and the Apple iPad 2, netbooks have certainly lost a lot of their momentum but they still come with more powerful hardware which makes them more suitable for a certain category of buyers. Today we have a look at one of these mini laptops, the Acer Aspire One 722-BZ480 which is powered by a dual core AMD C-50 APU that offers improved graphics for playing non-demanding video games.

It features a plastic Espresso Black chassis that has a glossy lid which comes with a dynamic ripple design. It weighs 2.95 pounds and it is one inch thick, making it one of the lightest 11-inch netbooks at the moment as the Lenovo ThinkPad X120e weighs 3.3 pounds while the HP Pavilion dm1z tips the scales at 3.4 pounds.

It has an 11.6-inch display that features a native resolution of 1,366 x 768 pixels which makes it suitable for watching HD content. The good news is that the netbook has an HDMI port which means that you can get the fullHD experience if you connect it to an HDTV. Keep in mind that since there’s no optical drive, you’ll be limited to streaming and digital downloads. You will be able to store your files on the 320GB hard drive that spins at 5,400 rpm, which should be enough for most users.

It adopts a full-size, island-style keyboard that shows signs of flexing while you are typing. Those who put a great deal into the keyboard should have a closer look at the aforementioned ThinkPad X120e from Lenovo which has one of the best keyboards in this segment.

Regarding the connectivity options, the Acer Aspire One 722-BZ480 comes with headphone and microphone jacks, a multi-format card reader, VGA out, HDMI port, three USB 2.0 ports, 802.11n Wi-Fi and an Ethernet port. You should know that the system comes with a significant amount of bloatware preinstalled, like Nook for PC, NY Times Reader, links to eBay and Netflix, along with Skype.

We’re dealing with a fair performer of productivity tasks since it has modest components in the form of a 1.0 GHz dual core APU and 2GB of DDR3 memory. The netbook is able to score 722 in PcMark 7, which is 162 points less than what the IdeaPad 205 from Lenovo is capable of. The latter has more memory and a beefier APU from AMD.

The standard 6-cell lithium-ion 40Wh battery is able to last for approximately 7 hours and 20 minutes during a test in MobileMark 2007, which is better than the 6:30 time achieved by the ThinkPad X120e, but less than the 8:40 obtained by the HP Mini 5103.
