The newest Kindle version that Amazon offers is the 3 G version that will cost you $ 150 for the ad version and $ 190 for the ads free version. These two versions available for the Kindle Touch 3 G have exactly the same hardware specifications the software removed ads being the only things offered for the $ 40 investment. It seems the Kindle Touch 3 G will be available starting the 21stNovember but Amazon offers the option to preorder the gadget. Of course, as readers are not all rich and techie, Amazon offers a base model for a smaller price. The difference between the Kindle Touch 3G and the base model is that the base model does not have touchscreen support or a 3G module.
However, the base model has an e – ink display with a diagonal of 6 inches and uses a native resolution of 600 x 800 pixels. The e – ink display offers 16 levels of gray to display the text and suit the readers’ needs when it comes to contrast. The internal memory that the users have at their disposal is limited to 2 GB but only 1.25 GB are actually available for books or other data. The useful gadget weighs only 0.170 kilograms and is approximately 30% lighter compared to the preceding generation. In addition the overall dimensions are even smaller than those of the Kindle Touch (1.66 cm x 11.4 cm x 0.87 cm).
As the base model does not use a touchscreen for controlling the interface, the entire control is done by using the circular button located in the bottom center part and two pairs of two smaller buttons positioned on the left and respectively the right of the circular controller. What the e – book reader also offers is an integrated flashlight that can be rotated and extended to make night reading feasible. The price starts at $ 79 and $ 109 for the ads free version.
As usual, all books that a user buys from Amazon are automatically saved on the Amazon servers and one is able to download the books again for free if they are accidentally deleted from the e – book reader, but unfortunately the feature is offered exclusively for the Amazon Kindle Touch version. Battery life spans for about a month with a standard 30 minutes of daily reading with the wireless module turned off. The lifespan decreases as the wireless module is turned on to more than three weeks, the manufacturer states.
