Announced at CES 2011, the LG Revolution VS910 is the third 4G LTE-enabled smartphone released for Verizon. The device is quite large as it measures 5.1 x 2.6 x 0.5 inches, and it is clad in a soft matte material on the back, featuring smooth gun-metal sides. This impressive size leaves us with a feeling of solidness and luxury when holding the device.
It comes with a gorgeous 4.3-inch LCD display that has a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. Even though the colors are not as deep as in a Super AMOLED display, the one fitted to the Revolution is still very capable while viewing videos. The capacitive touch screen manages to be very responsive and intuitive, and you won’t notice any lag when browsing through the seven home screens.
Below the display there are four touch sensitive buttons for the menu, home, back and search actions, while above the display resides an LED indicator (upper left) and a 1.3 mpx front facing camera (upper right). On the left side of the LG Revolution is the micro USB port, while on the right spine reside the HDMI port and the volume rocker. Sitting on top of the smartphone are the screen lock/power key and the 3.5 mm jack.
The hottest feature of this phone would have to be the fact that it offers support for Verizon’s 4G-LTE network which brings average download speeds of up to 12Mbps while the upload speeds can get up to 5Mbps. Some of the apps that come bundled with the phone include: Netflix, Polaris Office, Rhapsody, Bitbop, Blockbuster, Amazon Kindle, TuneWiki, Slacker and Let’s Golf 2. You will also find My Verzion Mobile, Backup Assistant, V Cast media manager, VZ Navigator, City ID and the Verizon’s application store.
Running on Android 2.2, the LG Revolution comes with Google services like YouTube, Gmail, Google Talk, Google Music and the recently introduced cloud music service. The smartphone offers playback support for 720p videos and can also play various video formats like 3GP, MP4, WMV and 3G2.
It has a five-megapixel camera located at the back which manages to take decent photos, but you will notice that the colors are a little bit washed out. The camcorder is able to take clips in 720p and you will store the images and videos on the pre-installed 16GB microSD card. Some of the other features of the device that are worth mentioning include voice commands, speed dial, speakerphone, conference calling as well as text & multimedia messaging. There’s also Wi-Fi on board, along with GPS and Bluetooth connectivity.
The 1,500 mAh battery should survive for up to 7.25 hours of talk time or up to 14 days in standby.
