Survival is a big deal these days and a booming industry. Survival gear and gadgets is a broad category that covers the important items for long term rule without law(Zombie apocalypse), or short term situations (Hurricane Katrina, Sandy) or immediate situations (Car crashes, being stranded in the woods). The market is booming and a lot of gadgets are out there to help you make it through your desperate situation. The following list provides 10 survival gadgets and gizmos across the broad spectrum of survival situations. I’ll break down the situations the survival gadget can be used in and why it belongs on the list.

1.PowerTrekk Fuel Cell

The PowerTrekk Fuel cell is an interesting gadget that can be used really for any survival situation, or even a camping situation. The PowerTrekk Fuel Cell is capable of generating electricity with water and the myFC puck. The myFC puck contains a certain kind and amount of salt that reacts with the water to produce electricity through the conversion of hydrogen.

The PowerTrekk isn’t picky on the water used in it either. This could be tap water, lake water, the dirty water from a puddle, or even urine. Basically any liquid containing water. The Powertrekk Fuel Cell is both a charger and compact portable battery. The little device is capable of charging a variety of usb charged devices including cell phones, GPS units, and emergency beacons. The battery is a medium sized unit with a size of 3800 mAH. The battery itself takes about 2 hrs to fully charge. A standard cell phone can be charged in roughly 2 hours, more if the battery is larger.

The PowerTrekk Fuel Cell is water resistant, but not submersible. The device can withstand humidity and light rain, but is not designed to become soaking wet. The PowerTrekk creates green energy, and the process is harmless. Although should the puck break it should just be thrown away and not used.

2.The Boker Credit Card Knife

The Boker Credit Card Knife is an interesting design. The Boker Credit card knife is not the traditional credit card style knife that’s mostly plastic with a small weak blade. The Boker features a much stronger handle, a simpler folding action, and much bigger blade. The Boker is a perfect everyday carry knife for the more discreet individuals. The Boker is perfect for a short term or immediate situation.

Carrying a larger knife is more optimum and often a better choice. The fact of the matter is the larger the knife the harder it will be to carry. Especially for smaller individuals or those wearing dress clothes or uniforms to work. A small knife you carry is more effective than the KA BAR you leave at home.

The Boker is not a fighting knife first off, it’s a utilitarian tool. The Boker features a much simpler opening action than other credit card knife designs. The blade simply folds outwards and can be done with one hand, or in the dark when you can’t see the blade. The addition of finger grooves and a pinky hole gives you a much better grip than other smaller handled knives. The G-10 grips are also a polymer material that is extremely durable and incredibly lightweight.
